The MVP’s of True Success – Mindset, Vision and
Persistence
The
fundamentals of success are the same no matter
what industry you’re in, what characteristics
you have, what lifestyle you live, etc.
Fundamentals are fundamentals.
The
exact same concepts, traits and activities that
work for Bill Gates in software sales, Warren
Buffet in the stock market, or Wayne Gretzky in
sports, will work for you in your Mary Kay
business.
The
bottom line is this: if you want to achieve
anything significant in your personal life and
career, you must be willing to do what
significant achievers do in their personal lives
and careers. After all, if you want to fly
like an eagle, you must learn from eagles.

It took
me about 10 years of serious study in the
personal development & goal-setting fields
before I realized that all high achievers
understand and implement the same 3 essential
attributes – a healthy MINDSET, a crystal clear
VISION, and unwavering PERSISTENCE. When you
arm yourself with these 3 elements, you are
unstoppable.
Mindset
Attaining a healthy mindset is just like
building the foundation for a house. If the
foundation is strong, you can build whatever you
like above ground. But if the foundation is
weak, even the best house in the world is
destined to collapse.
The
same thing is true with your mind. If it’s
strong, you can build whatever life you wish.
But if it’s weak, your world and your business
will eventually collapse. Below are three keys
to building a positive mental foundation.
Take 100% responsibility in your
life. Jack
Canfield teaches the equation E (event) + R
(response) = O (outcome). You sometimes have
little control over the external events in your
life. However, you have 100% control over your
response to that event. Respond wisely. No
excuses. As long as you have the ability to
respond, you are not a victim of your
circumstances.
So if a
prospect tells you she’s going to join Mary Kay
and light the world on fire, great. But then if
she enters the Witness Protection Program 2 days
later, changes her name, changes her number,
boards up her house and pretends she never knew
you, how will you respond?
Most
women don’t respond (R) too favorably to that
event (E), which is why they typically have
negative emotional outcomes (O). But if you
choose to, you can respond positively,
understand it’s not about you, and move on.
Which brings us to the next key…
CHOOSE to be positive.
Every day you have the choice to view the world
through a positive filter or a negative filter –
it’s completely up to you. Successful people
choose to be positive, always looking for the
lesson in every challenge. Unsuccessful people
choose to be negative, always looking for the
challenges in every situation, believing the
forces of evil are out to get them. Whichever
choice you make, you will always find it.
Understand, I’m not saying to be fake in your
business. One concept I totally disagree with
is to “fake it ‘til you make it.” I
don’t think you should fake anything. That’s
not enjoying the journey. Instead, figure out
what you need to do to “make it” and do those
things. That way, you’ll be authentically
positive and you’ll enjoy your life. I’ve
yet to find a person who enjoys being
inauthentic.
Erase from your vocabulary the
word “failure”.
Failure exists only in your mind. There is no
such thing as failure – it’s a made up concept.
It can’t be seen. It can’t be touched. It
can’t be heard. Failure is merely an
interpretation, a negative opinion, that someone
makes about an outcome. Successful people,
however, know that in life you either win
or you learn. You never lose – unless
you quit.
With
your Mary Kay business, please don’t consider
yourself a success or failure according to the
results you get. You should give yourself
appreciation if you DO THE ACTIONS! That
way, you can control your success 100%. And if
your actions aren’t getting the results you
want, it’s not a ‘failure’, it’s just
feedback. Change the recipe until you
get the results you want.
Vision
Once
your mental foundation is set, you must know
exactly where it is you want to go. All
successful people have a crystal clear vision of
what they want to achieve. You can begin by
brainstorming a list of at least 2-3 things
you’d like to accomplish in the following 6
areas of your life: Financial, Career,
Relationships, Health & Fitness, Contributions
to Society, and Leisure Time.
Select
the most important goal(s) from each area and
write it on separate note cards. On the back of
each note card, explain why you want to
accomplish this goal – how will achieving this
goal make you feel? Every day, once in the
morning and once at night, review these goals,
reading both sides of the cards to yourself –
out loud if possible. After reading each card,
close your eyes and vividly imagine that you’ve
already achieved this particular goal.
This
simple vision exercise is guaranteed to improve
your results. It is so powerful because your
brain is a goal-seeking organism. If you give
it a consistent and clear feeling of what you
want to accomplish, it will work day and night,
both consciously and unconsciously, to figure
out how. Before long, you will be effortlessly
attracting success from all directions.
Persistence
Once
you know exactly what you want to experience in
your life, create a PERSONALIZED map of how to
get it – don’t just blindly follow someone
else’s map. Research the people who have
already achieved what you’re trying to achieve
and learn the lessons from their experience, but
you absolutely must take into account your own
set of circumstances – what you enjoy,
what you don’t enjoy, your
strengths, your weaknesses, etc.
Then,
make a list of action steps to take on a
monthly, weekly and daily basis and follow your
own directions until you ‘make it.’ Persistence
is the single most powerful trait you will ever
have.
If you
want something bad enough, and are willing to
pay the price, nothing can stop you. If you
have the courage to go over, around or through
any obstacle in your way, and get into a good
fight for all your dreams, no matter what anyone
else says, success is the only possible
outcome.
Persistence commands success. Enjoy the
Journey.
